The Josh Alper Marines Music Room is a program initiated due to the requests of students and the collaboration and effort of Stevenson staff members.  The space is located in the small building off of the Stevenson service road, behind House 3.  The facility is conducive to 1-6 individuals.

Thanks for your help in making this room successful!

Please reserve the space at least one day in advance (no same day reservations or over weekends).

To ensure the success of this pilot program we need your help in abiding by the following policies...

  • The space is available by reservation only.
  • Reservations must be made a day in advance via the Stevenson Music Practice Room reservation form (below).
  • Time slots open for reservations are 1pm-3:30pm and 6pm-9pm daily.
  • Recurring reservations are no longer available.
  • The student who reserves the space is responsible and accountable for ensuring appropriate use of the facility.
  • If your reservation is confirmed, you will be directed as to when and where to meet a staff member or collect a key to open the space.
  • You will need to provide the staff person with a student ID card or driver's license to hold while you are using the space.
  • Be ready to leave on time.
  • To ensure security do not leave the space unattended while the door is unlocked.
  • This space is intended for use by UCSC students to practice music/performance that would otherwise be disruptive in the residence halls due to noise levels.
    • Though this separate enclosed space is helpful in reducing noise impact to others, it is possible that noise complaints may happen.  If a student or staff person asks you to reduce volume, please do so immediately or stop using the space.
  • At this time, we are not able to offer instrument storage.
  • The practice space currently has the following equipment (although this listing is not a guarantee of availability): drum kit; Yamaha YPT-230 keyboard; Drive bass amp; Johnson guitar amp; two microphones; Phonic 410 100w powered mixer; two monitors.
  • University, college, and housing rules apply. Violations will be subject to standard sanctions in addition to loss of privileges for the practice space.
    • Please, no drugs and alcohol in the practice room -- you will lose privileges and endanger the program for everyone if you do not respect these policies.
