Stevenson Student Council

Overview

The Student Council is the governing body for Stevenson students. The primary responsibilities of the council include the allocation of the College Membership fund, making recommendations on policies and positions that affect students, staffing and publicizing student elections, informing Stevenson students about issues and events occurring both at UCSC and across the University of California, and the appointment of students to university committees, including the Academic Senate, the Student Union Assembly, and the Student Fee Advisory Committee.

The council primarily consists of a representative from each of the eight residential houses, and representatives from the apartments and off-campus students. Although both the College Programs Coordinator and a Coordinator for Residential Education participate in Student Council as advisers, only Stevenson students can be voting members of the Council and participate in the decision-making process.

Meetings are held every Thursday night at 7:30pm in the upper lounge of House 7. The one to two hour meetings generally consist of funding requests, updates on projects, and reports from committee representatives and Stevenson staff. All Stevenson students are welcome to join and engage in discussion and decision-making.

The Student Council also sponsors and plans a variety of exciting events for the college. Past events have included the Soiree, a semi-formal dance featuring a DJ, casino gambling, door prizes, and catered food, and the Mr. Stevenson pageant, a light-hearted talent competition open to all interested Stevenson students.
