Requesting Increased Courseload

Request To Take More Than 19 Credits

The enrollment system will allow you to enroll in up to 19 credits without approval. Students with a cumulative UCSC GPA of 2.5 or above may enroll in up to 22 units without approval from the college. Students may not enroll in more than 19 credits until the first day of instruction to allow all students the opportunity to enroll in classes.

You need to petition for an increased course load if you would like to:

  1. Enroll in more than 22 credits and you have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above, or
  2. Enroll in more than 19 credits and you have a cumulative GPA below 2.5.

*You must wait until your grades are posted from the current quarter to petition for an increased course load.*

To petition for an increased courseload, please send an email to stevensonadvising@ucsc.edu and include your:

  • Name
  • ID
  • The courses you wish to take
  • Total amount of credits
  • The reason for the increased courseload
  • Your estimation of the demands of each course

You will be notified via email of the approval or denial of your request. Approval is unlikely if you have a cumulative GPA below a 2.5 and did not pass all of your classes in the previous quarter.
