John Halverson Scholarship

John L. Halverson (deceased 1998) was a founding faculty member of Stevenson College and a Professor of Literature for 27 years at UC Santa Cruz.

Scholarship Award: $3,500 per year*

*The selected student will be awarded the scholarship for four years, with the option to extend to a fifth year, dependent upon demonstrated academic progress.

Requirements:

  • First-year Stevenson College student
  • Preference is given to students who can demonstrate interest in and experience with African American culture and issues confronting the African American community
  • Demonstrated financial need

Application: Submit a two-page statement to Debby Joyce (dajoyce@ucsc.edu) explaining your interest in and/or experience with African American culture and issues confronting the African American community.  Include information about yourself (your major, interests, future plans, background, etc.).

Michele Guard Memorial Scholarship

The Michele Guard Memorial Scholarship was established by Michele Guard's mother, Nancy Guard-Evans, in memory of her daughter who was a Stevenson College student.

Scholarship Award: $600 - $1,200

Requirements:

  • First-year Stevenson College student
  • Child of a Single-Parent (including a widowed or divorced parent)
  • Demonstrated academic success
  • Demonstrated financial need

Application: Submit a two-page statement to Debby Joyce (dajoyce@ucsc.edu) explaining how you meet the scholarship requirements. Include information regarding your background, interests, future plans and potential major(s).

Matthew Graviano Memorial Scholarship

The Matthew Graviano Scholarship was established by the Graviano family in honor of their son, Matthew, who was a Stevenson College student.

Scholarship Award: $500

Requirements:

  • Junior or Senior Stevenson College student
  • Majoring in Psychology and/or Legal Studies
  • Demonstrated academic excellence

Robert Dodge Student Service Award

The Robert Dodge Student Service Award establishes support for Stevenson College students from the University of California, Santa Cruz to partner with community organizations and actively participate in service projects. Funds from the Robert Dodge Award will be used by the student to complete his/her service project. Selections will be made by a committee made up of the Provost, faculty and selected community partners. Additionally, at the end of each project students will be asked to report on their accomplishments.

Scholarship Award: $500
 

Requirement:

  • Stevenson College Student

Application: Submit a two-page proposal to Debby Joyce (dajoyce@ucsc.edu) addressing the following:

  • Succinctly state the mission of your project
  • How your project will benefit students and the community organization you plan to work with
  • Your qualifications and/or prior experience
  • Your plan for the completion of your project (timeline of proposed services) and your anticipated budget

Sandor Callahan Scholarship Award

The Sandor Callahan award establishes support and recognition for a student who has consistently demonstrated and upheld tenets dear to Stevenson College: A commitment to athletics, academic life and giving back to the community.  

Scholarship Award: $250

Requirements:

  • Stevenson College Student
  • Preference given to students who demonstrate a commitment to athletics, academic life, and the spirit of giving back to the Stevenson Community

Application: Submit a one to two-page statement to Debby Joyce (dajoyce@ucsc.edu) explaining your commitment to athletics, academic life and giving back to the community.  Include information about yourself (your major, interest, future plans, background, etc.).

Student Research Project Funding

Applications for Student Research Project Funding (SRPF) will be considered in the following areas:

  • Academic research
  • Creative initiatives
  • Artistic endeavors
  • Public events of benefit to the campus community

Both individual and collective efforts are encouraged. Funding for individual projects can be matching, partial, or full, depending on merit, funds available, and other funding sources.

Scholarship Award: Up to $500

Requirements:

  • Stevenson College student(s)
  • Include a brief letter from a faculty sponsor endorsing your project proposal

Application: Submit your two to four page proposal to Debby Joyce (dajoyce@ucsc.edu) stating your project title, category, budget, funds requested from other sources, funds requested from Stevenson, a brief abstract, and an explanation of how your project will benefit Stevenson students.
